Surrounded by majestic hills with cliffs sloping down to the sea that hide the entrances to dark ravines, which are known in Ischia as "cave” (pits), often the location of powerful thermal springs such as that of "Cava Scura”. One of Italy’s most beautiful beaches, the Spiaggia dei Maronti, is located there and is a 3-km stretch of grey grainy sand.
A small part of this beach is included in the municipality of Serrara Fontana and most of it is in the municipality of Barano. It can be reached along a scenic road that descends with hairpin bends from the town of Barano (offering one of the most spectacular views of Ischia), or from the charming little port of Sant'Angelo on pleasant and unusual... taxi boats. There are numerous establishments overlooking it, offering various services.
